Girls Puck Falls at the Garden
By Pat LaBelle

For the second straight year, CHS girls hockey found their way back to the TD Garden. This time for a matchup against the #1 seeded Wellesley Raiders.
Wellesley showed early that this would be the bulldog’s toughest test of the season by controlling offensive time of possession for much of the first period. But the bulldog defense along with the play of senior goaltender Colleen Kelleher (who capped off an unbelievable career with another gem between the pipes) was able to keep the puck out of the net.
However, with just 4.7 seconds left in the first frame, a Wellesley forward was able to jump on a loose puck, put it through the legs of a Canton defender, and finish top shelf for a beautiful goal to give the Raiders the advantage after one period of play.
Unfortunately for the bulldogs, goals were hard to come by on a day like today and despite a couple scattered chances; the 1-0 advantage would hold for the rest of the game.

It’s always hard to end the season on a loss and to come so close stings even more. But with that being said, you have to look at the entire season and for the seniors the whole four years. This group was able to go to two straight state championship games and with the unpredictability of high school sports that is truly something to be proud of.
Never as fun to give awards on a loss but there are a couple things that can’t be left unsaid…
Fan of the Game: Frankie
For the second straight year Frankie takes home fan of the game at the Garden. He’s the ultimate Canton High School sports fanatic and I think you have to give a shoutout to the guy who never misses a game.
And I mean that.
Never.
Moment of the Game: Big Headed Kevin LaBelle on the jumbotron
There are some moments that you have to throw out “conflict of interest” for; baw gawd this was one of them! “The Kid! Jr.” (that’s a trademarked nickname; all rights reserved to me) with a head 3x the size of his body? Pure electricity.
It was a fun winter.
