It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

By: Taylor Hayzlett

It’s that time again! Every year in late January, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences releases the Oscar nominations, with SNL’s Bowen Yang and Bottoms’ Rachel Sennott set to host the announcements. By the time I’ve begun writing this article, nominations are a mere twenty hours away, and who would I be if I didn’t give my personal opinion and predictions on the matter? Without including the many more obscure categories, here is how I (and many film experts) feel it’s going to go…

Best Picture: Emilia Pérez, Wicked, Anora, The Brutalist*, Conclave

Best Leading Actor: Timothée Chalamet, Adrien Brody*, Colman Domingo, Ralph Fiennes, Daniel Craig

Best Leading Actress: Demi Moore, Mikey Madison, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Fernanda Torres, Cynthia Erivo

Best Supporting Actor: Edward Norton, Guy Pearce, Clarence Maclin, Kieran Culkin, Yura Borisov

Best Supporting Actress: Ariana Grande, Jamie Lee Curtis, Monica Barbaro, Isabella Rossellini, Zoe Saldaña

Best Director: Jacques Audiard, Edward Berger, Sean Baker, Brady Corbet, Payal Kapadia

Best Score: Emilia Pérez, The Wild Robot, Challengers, The Brutalist, Conclave

Best Screenplay (original or adapted): Sing Sing, All We Imagine As Light, Anora, The Substance, A Great Unknown

*The Brutalist has been met with controversy in recent days as it has been revealed that the film editors used artificial intelligence to create some backgrounds in the film, as well as to enhance lead actor Adrien Brody’s Hungarian accent, so this could affect both the film and Brody’s chances at nomination.

The results are in…
